Before you begin: You need an existing n8n instance with the Code node available. This download does not include n8n hosting. The sample does not send messages or save leads outside your n8n execution history.
Verified in n8n 2.45.6: all five sample results matched on October 30, 2026. Read the test notes and compatibility limits.
1. Open your download
Unzip the file. You’ll find lead-router-sample.json, a CSV of fictional leads, expected results, an offline copy of the setup instructions, and TESTING.html with compatibility notes.
2. Import into n8n
Create a new workflow in n8n. Open the workflow menu and choose Import from File, then select lead-router-sample.json. The canvas contains a manual trigger, a sample data step, and a routing step. Save the imported workflow.
3. Run the sample
Choose Execute Workflow. Open the Route leads step and inspect its output. Each lead should have a team, priority, reason, and recommended next step.
| Sample inquiry | Team | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Alex · $8,000 website | Design team | High |
| Sam · $3,000 marketing, urgent | Growth team | High |
| Jordan · $1,000, exploring | General inbox | Low |
| Casey · $3,000 website | Design team | Normal |
| Riley · $5,000 marketing | Growth team | High |
4. Understand the rules
- Team: Website design goes to Design; Marketing goes to Growth; everything else goes to General.
- High priority: Budget is $5,000 or more, or the timeline is within two weeks.
- Low priority: The lead is just exploring and does not meet either high-priority rule.
- Normal priority: All other valid inquiries.
High priority always takes precedence. These are suggested business rules, not predictions of whether a lead will buy.
5. Make it your own
Open Route leads and find routeRules at the top. Change the team labels or the priority budget, then rerun the sample. Keep an unchanged copy so you can compare results.

If something doesn’t work
- Import error: Extract the ZIP first and import the JSON file, not the whole archive.
- Code node blocked: Ask your n8n administrator to check whether the Code node is enabled.
- No output: Run the workflow from the manual trigger so the sample data step executes first.
- Different results after editing: Restore the original sample and change one rule at a time.
Still stuck? Email support@dispatchswarm.com with your n8n version, the step you reached, and any error message. Keep passwords and API keys out of your message.
What happens to the data?
The included data is fictional. When you run the sample, n8n may retain it in execution history according to your instance settings. Before adapting the full kit for real leads, set your own retention, access, and privacy practices.
